How did you quit smoking and how much did you smoke before you quit?

I really want to quit smoking it makes me feel lousy but Im having a hard time.

I smoked for almost 20 years and finally quit on October 10,2006. I have not had the craving for a smoke. I used the patch for about 2-3 weeks and I was done with them. I have tried to quit before. Never used the patch before, but did try other things. I think the most important thing was that I was actually really ready to quit. The stopped tasting good if that makes any sense. Good luck.

I used to smoke almost a whole pack in two days, several years ago. Then I became pregnant & the smell of it made me sick, besides the fact that I was concerned with baby’s health, so I quit. It was easy for me.
I have heard that you need to develope a habit in place of the smoking, like chewing gum or something.

I smoke a pack a day from the time i was 15 until i was 23, i quit cold turkey and lots of prayers

If you wanna quit, main thing is not about how you quit..there are many ways of quitting…but none of the ways won’t work if your will power is not strong enough. So ask yourself do you want to quit and if you yourself wants to quit then you will quit.

You can use patches, gum ,etc. why I would prefer chewing gum over patches is because if you chew a gum it keeps your mouth busy.

Most likely you will fail the first time..and get back to smoking but you will try again and you will succeed.

You have to remember one thing is that when you were smoking how disgusting it was and how guilyt you felt when you smoke the cig. just chewing a gum wont help you quit..its your willpower and you will always have to rem the neg side of smoking and will have to remind yourself over and over…
and most imp of all stay away from smokers because smoking is lifestyle which you should stay away from!

Go see a doctor and ask him for a predcription for quitting smokeing, take it even when you feel sick. it can’t hurt you, but if you really want to QUIT you can with the prescription. I did after 42 years. I don’t smoke now and when I smell it, it stinks.

I smoked for 30 years and it got to about 1-2 packs a day. I had colds and pneumonia it seemed every winter. It got so silly to have to jump up from the table and run outside to have a cig. I would avoid social situations where I could not smoke. Banning smoking in public places was a good motivator for me.
I also had a long time smoker friend who lost a lung. I had to think about that for a year before I decided I could quit.
I chewed the nicorette gum. I chewed it as frequently as I felt the urge to smoke. A cigarette lasts about 8 minutes but the gum can last up to 30.
I chewed it about 6 months and tapered off. I’ve been smoke free for three years and 2 months. I can’t imaging going back.

I started smoking in 1994 after my mom passed away. It was my only real friend at the day. From ‘94 to 2006 I smoked about 2 packs of red marlboros a day. it makes 40 cigarettes a day. By mid 2003 I was having difficulty breathing, every morning I woke up coughing and spitting and I was really getting tired very quick whatever I was doing.

I live in a 4th floor appartment without an elevator and it was killing me just to climb the stairs..

So I decided to quit. I tried hypnosis, I didn’t smoke for 2 days but the third day I started over again.

I tried various pills,patches and other stuff but none of them worked. In my quest for the “thing that will make me quit smoking”, I found a review about a patch that is made of only natural stuff.. herbs etc.. I thought ‘well, it can’t hurt to try’ so I bought a pack and.. I can’t describe the feeling bug I started to get ‘disturbed’ by the idea of smoking. I felt disgusted of the smell of cigarettes..

A more mild version of this happened to me with some other products as well so I tried to not get so excited, because with the other product, it was OK as long as I was taking the pills but the moment I quit taking them, the urge to smoke was there alright.

So after 2 months of living with the patch (the name’s nicocure by the way), I decided -reluctantly- to test it out. I stopped putting on the patches, a week passed, two weeks, a month.. and I was still a non-smoker!

I have been a non-smoker ever since. I recommend it to everyone who’s serious about quitting smoking.

i quit by using nicorette and will power

i used to chainsmoke and smoke 10 to fiften packs a day i sonked one in bed when i woke up one with breakfast one pack in the car 7 or 8 at work another in the car 2 with dinner and mabey a pack and a half before bed

I quit on 28 Feb, 2007! Not too long ago. I smoked 1 pack a day. I smoked for 25 years.
I quit cold turkey. I have tried several times in the past to quit and have used all the aides out there. The patch, gum, lozenges, etc. I would use them for several weeks and just start smoking again.
The times before when I attempted to quit, I never really quit because I wanted to…it was always because my husband wanted me to quit or my kids wanted me to quit, etc.
This time around I want to quit. I made myself a list of reasons why I am quitting and I read that list everyday sometimes I read it up to 10 times a day when I get bad cravings. I let that list really sink in. Some of my reasons are my health, the smell, the cost, etc.
I use spicy gum like cinammon flavor and fireball jawbreakers to help with the cravings. I drink alot of water. I also read to drink fruit juice to help with the blood sugar levels that drop when you quit.
I use a straw to inhale on when I get a craving.
I do not want to smoke anymore and I know that this time I have enough willpower to stop for good.
